Ariana Grande has decided to show her support for transgenders by donating $1.5M to organizations connected with the LGBTQ community.
Ariana Grande Pledges $1.5 Million To Trans-Youth Organizations
This is part of the wider International Transgender Day of Visibility, which aims to highlight the barriers that such members of the community face, as well as celebrating their achievements. And as part of that process, Ariana has set up her Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund which aims to raise money.
As such, Ariana felt she had no choice but to do something. In a post to her fans on social media, she said: “I’ve created with @pledge to support organizations providing direct services and advocating for the rights of trans youth!
“This will provide critical funds to organizations advocating for the rights of trans youth.” But rather than simply directing money as a way to make change, the singer has also had a few choice words about the recent legislation that has been passed concerning transgenders.
This was most notably seen following the state of Florida’s decision to pass the ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill.’ This legislation has the impact of preventing public school teachers from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity.
With that being said, Ariana could not stay silent. She added: “Right now, there [are] hundreds of bills pending in state legislatures across the United States that target trans youth and aim to curb their rights.”
Despite the singer’s support, not everybody was convinced by her dedication. A certain subset of people felt that the singer was simply capitalising on the publicity generated by this topical issue, as a way to expand her brand.
One person wrote: “She’s just making some money and gaining some clout. Only fools fall for this type of self “marketing.”
Only Ariana knows her true intentions, but without any alternative explanation to the contrary, we have to give her the benefit of the doubt. After all, she is going out of her way even if people may argue it is monetary support.
So there you have it folks. What did you think about all of this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
