The games allow military personnel, who have been injured, to compete against each other. And as Harry served in the British armed forces, he is fully aware of what it takes to adjust to life in the aftermath of the army.
While that is a noble cause indeed, Meghan’s appearance is significant for other reasons too. First of all, it will be the first time that she leaves the United States since leaving the Royal family in 2020.
Prior to this, she has been preoccupied with the recent birth of her daughter Lilibet. Secondly, sources stress that Meghan is not going to be alone. It is claimed that a film crew will be accompanying her, as part of Netflix in order to document the event.
And by the sounds of it, Meghan cannot wait to get started. A source said: “Meghan is excited to travel with Harry for the event, which is certainly close to his heart.” The reaction on social media, however, was brutal.
A significant proportion of people felt that the introduction of a potential film crew showed Meghan’s true colours. This was not so much about supporting a noteworthy cause, but rather, a publicity stunt designed in order to broaden her brand.
After all, if Meghan really did care about the games, then she would have done so without the need for a film crew to document her every move. One person wrote: “Now they’re monetising injured service personnel, how low can they go?
“This pair are utterly disgusting, particularly given Harry stated he hated the cameras following him around. Seems if you pay him he doesn’t have a problem with it.”
There is clearly not a lot of appetite out there to see Meghan attend. But just as she has shown before, she will continue to do what is best regardless of what others may have to say.
