Earlier this year, Tony Khan dropped a bombshell on an episode of AEW Dynamite. He had bought Ring of Honor – and would run it alongside AEW. This led to Khan helping to put together Supercard of Honor, a show which featured one of the best matches of the year with FTR defeating The Briscoes. However, we don’t know what the future holds for the brand – but Khan hopes to launch a new weekly show.
Tony Khan Hopes To Get Weekly TV Back For ROH, Keep Doing Major Events
Speaking about the future of Ring of Honor, Tony Khan had the following to say.
“I’ve been having more conversations with WarnerMedia about what we can do together to grow Ring of Honor. I think it would make sense for Ring of Honor to continue as a weekly series and major events, like we just had with Supercard.”
I think the success of Supercard, critically and commercially, will bode very well for WarnerMedia really taking an interest in Ring of Honor, as well as AEW. There’s great potential to have a complementary wrestling brand.”
Supercard of Honor Was A Huge Success Because Of Khan Buying ROH
It’s been reported that Supercard of Honor sold 2,000 tickets and did over 20k PPV buys, and prior to Khan buying ROH – had only sold 500 tickets. Interest in ROH has never been greater- and getting another weekly TV show could only help this. Supercard of Honor was so good with zero actual build – imagine what Khan could do with even an hour of weekly TV.
Right now, ROH talent are being used on AEW programming, with FTR having defended the ROH World Tag Team Championships this past week on Dynamite. This coming Wednesday, ROH World TV Champion Minoru Suzuki is set to face Samoa Joe. Others such as Brian Cage, Jonathan Gresham, and more will also likely find their way to TV in AEW, with a match between Gresham & CM Punk teased on Twitter.
