Over the past two years, fans of AEW have gotten to find out about one of the best kept secrets in professional wrestling. Long stuck to smaller indy promotions, many fans missed out on years of action from Eddie Kingston. After being given a chance against Cody Rhodes in AEW, Kingston was able to turn a one off appearance into a full time contract – including PPV matches against the likes of Jon Moxley, Miro, CM Punk & Chris Jericho. However AEW taking this chance on a wildcard like Kingston has just earned them some intense loyalty.
Eddie Kingston Is Loyal To AEW
While speaking on the Straight Shooters podcast, Eddie Kingston would describe his loyalty to AEW & Tony Khan. Kingston would have the following to say about this.
“I’m like a dog, man, when it comes to loyalty. That’s it. My word is my bond and AEW fits me because they took the shot. If people wanna know any deeper, it’s basically they let me be me. There’s no character. There’s no, ‘You can’t say that.’ … I got freedom. It’s just a really good environment when you shut out the negativity and understand this is the pro wrestling business. Not everyone is going to like each other. That’s it. Take care of your own stuff.”
Getting To Step Through The Forbidden Door
While AEW gets first dibs on Kingston at any given moment, he has still been able to work the indies – and even New Japan Pro Wrestling. AEW & NJPW have a working relationship, and Kingston has taken advantage of this.
He’s faced the likes of Gabriel Kidd & Daniel Garcia in a NJPW ring, and will soon face Tomohiro Ishii during Capital Collision in May. Everything Eddie Kingston does at this point is must see – and facing a legendary brawler like Ishii could well result in one of the best matches of the year.
Meanwhile in AEW, Eddie Kingston has linked up with old allies in Santana & Ortiz – and is in a feud with Chris Jericho and his new Jericho Appreciation Society faction.
