Jay White has been running the U-S-of-Jay Open Challenge Series for months now, bringing in the likes of Christopher Daniels, Mike Bailey, Hikule’o, Jay Lethal & Swerve Strickland. Tonight at Windy City Riot, fans will once again see someone try to step up and defeat The Switchblade. White is ready for anyone.
Jon Moxley would be the one to introduce the opponent tonight – as his NJPW protege Shota ‘Shooter’ Umino is here to raise hell! Having taken his excursion in RevPro Wrestling, Umino has vastly improved since his time as a Young Lion – and struck fast tonight!
Jay White Gets Pushed Hard By Shoto Umino
Umino would get the jump on Jay White, and Switchblade was not sure how to handle this. This is not someone Jay is able to scout as a possible opponent, not someone who has decades of tape like Lethal or Daniels. Umino would nail a slingshot DDT, before some uppercuts in the corner. Switchblade was off his game here – before White would yank Umino down by his hair.
Umino was set up on the top rope, and dropped to the floor with a heavy chop. Back in the ring, White would apply a single leg boston crab – but Umino was able to find the bottom rope. A chinlock would be applied – before Umino broke free. White went for a series of pinfalls, each one shorter than the last. Umino would fire up with a huge shotgun dropkick before a picture perfect Fisherman Suplex for a near fall.
A reverse bloody sunday would land, and Umino would get a near fall. His Pumphandle Suplex would be blocked, and White would nail Bladebuster for a two count. White nailed a big gutbuster, and Umino had the risk of a rib injury. A stoppage was discussed, but Umino refused to quit.
White would kick Umino in the ribs before calling him an embarrassment – and Umino would fire up. One shot to the ribs would be followed by the uranage for a near fall. Sleeper Suplex was blocked, with Umino instead taking some chops into the corner. Umino refused to quit – and would level White with a blow before the Pumphandle Suplex for a near fall.
A dropkick and German Suplex got another near fall – before Umino would hit a swinging neckbreaker. White was showing less and less, but Death Rider was blocked into Blade Runner for the finish.
The Two Hardest Hitters In The Industry Today
When we last saw Minoru Suzuki & Tomohiro Ishii in the same ring – they were looking to tear each other apart. Now, for the first time in the United States, these two legendary brawlers will meet in the middle of the ring. Suzuki is hot off a main event match in AEW against Samoa Joe – and will be looking to claim a massive win.
These two would start the match in the only way fans expected – trading forearms in the middle of the ring. Ishii won out before looking for an enziguri – with Suzuki dodging a throwing a PK that got just air. Ishii would send Suzuki to the apron, just to wind up in an armbar.
On the floor, both men grabbed steel chairs – and they’d duel it out – Suzuki winning. Back into the ring, Suzuki would continue to focus on the right arm – trying to take away the dominant arm. Ishii would not show pain, hitting a flurry of strikes in the corner before a powerslam.
Tomohiro Ishii Ties This Rivalry Up 3-3
Suzuki would snap Ishii to the mat and nail the PK – but only got a two count. They’d trade more blows in the middle of the ring – with Suzuki testing the jaw of Ishii with a trio of forearm blows. PK would land – but Ishii was back up for more. Open palm strikes would land at the same time, a potential double KO.
Both men found their feet, and Ishii took another big string of strikes to the face. Ishii would not stay down or be hit with the Gotch Style Piledriver – and would nail a lariat to Suzuki who just gave a primal yell. Another heavy forearm to the face landed, but the Gotch Style Piledriver was blocked.
Vertical Drop Brainbuster would land – and Ishii would be able to keep Suzuki down on the mat for three long seconds – getting the win! This was their sixth match – and both men have now won three. However after this war – AEW’s Eddie Kingston hit the ring – and the message was clear – he wants next. May 14th in Washington.
