Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a very profitable contract with online streaming giant Netflix in 2020. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Meghan Markle, who is a co-founder of Archewell Productions, would serve as an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix series “Pearl.” Pearl is a cartoon series that shows how a motivated 12-year-old girl follows the exploits of powerful women in history. However, it is understood that the series has been cancelled by Netflix.
Netflix And Meghan’s Archewell Productions Will Collaborate On Other Projects
According to inside sources, Netflix has cancelled Pearl as part of a wider rethinking of its approach to cartoon programming. Netflix has also decided to cancel several cartoon shows, including “Dino Daycare” and “Boons and Curses.”
Why Netflix Canceled Meghan Markle’s Cartoon “Pearl”
The cancellations come in the wake of reports that Netflix lost 200,000 subscribers between January and March of this year. Netflix is facing intense rivalry with other streaming platforms like Disney+ and Amazon Prime, and the most recent numbers show that it has not been able to live up to forecasts that it would attract 2.5 million new users to its service.
A Deadline report read, “Word in town is that even before recent events, Netflix had been telling producers to take some development projects elsewhere, after those producers had been given indication they were priorities. Clearly, Netflix’s inordinately high content spend is being reevaluated.“
Although Pearl is no longer in development, Netflix said the two companies will continue to collaborate on other projects, and Invictus Games show ‘Heart of Invictus‘ is one of the programs Archewell Productions and Netflix have collaborated on.
The Invictus Games have been one of Prince Harry’s most prominent royal endeavors since when he was still an active royal and even now that he has stepped back from the royal family. According to the Archewell website, the program will “display inspirational stories of perseverance and optimism from participants” in the build-up to the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, which the Sussexesattended last month.
