A recent episode of ‘The Kardashians’ captured the moments leading up to Travis Barker’s surprise proposal to Kourtney Kardashian, but one of Kourtney’s kids was very upset to learn that she was excluded from the big event.
Kourtney described the beachfront proposal as a ‘fairy tale’ but not everyone shared in her excitement. Kourtney’s nine year old daughter Penelope, whom she shares with Scott Disick, became very emotional upon learning that her mother got engaged to the Blink-182 drummer.

Not long after Travis asked for Kourtney’s hand in marriage, she struggled with how she should inform her children about her engagement.“How do I tell my kids?,” she asked her family, before saying “I feel like I need to tell them now, cause they will see it on the Internet”.
Kourtney then FaceTimed each of her three children individually to share the news. Calling Penelope first, Kourtney began by saying, “How’s my girl? Do you want to know what my surprise was?”.
“We got engaged!” Kourtney told her daughter, before Kim jumps in to say “Look mom got a ring!”. Penelope can be heard crying on the phone as Kourtney asks “Is that upsetting?” and Kim inquires “P, why are you sad, baby?”. Penelope utters the words “Hang up” before she takes it upon herself to end the call.
Kourtney discussed the situation with Kim, saying, “I feel bad for P. Penelope took it hard. I think it’s a big change for her, and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn’t know what that means.”
In a confessional clip, Kourtney expressed how she felt about not having her kids present during such a special moment. “I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would have made them feel more included in the decision, kinda, and part of the surprise,” she said.
Kourtney later tells Khloe, “I know that my mom made that decision, and it probably wasn’t her best.” Kourtney’s mother Kris Jenner worked with Travis to plan out the entire proposal from start to finish. Ultimately, it was Kris who made the decision not to invite Kourtney’s kids.
Earlier in the episode, viewers see Kris’ boyfriend Corey Gamble if they ever “figured out a way” to have Kourtney’s kids come to the proposal without telling Scott. “There was just no way to get that whole thing dialed in, and at the last minute, Kourtney told Travis that Penelope wasn’t feeling well,” Kris responded.
Kris did however make sure to include Travis Barker’s children – Landon, 18, Alabama, 16, from his former marriage to Shanna Moakler, as well as his stepdaughter Atiana De Le Hoya, 23, from Shanna’s past relationship with Oscar De La Hoya. Kris tried to explain her logic behind inviting only Travis’ kids by saying “they’re older”. Kris then said that it’s up to Kourtney “to break it to her kids the way she wants”.
Once Scott caught wind of Kourtney’s engagement, he texted Khloe saying, “You guys are gonna kick me out now. I’m not involved in the family,’ and he was asking, ‘Why weren’t my kids there?’.
Khloe attempted to diffuse the situation by telling Kourtney, “They think their dad is gone and you’re replacing him. When you’re a kid, you think you have to pick one, so P’s reaction is understandably OK, but there’s nothing wrong with Travis”.
Kourtney dated Scott Disick off and on from 2005 until 2015. In addition to Penelope, they share two sons – Mason, 12, and Reign, 7.
