South Carolina Man Dies While Burying Girlfriend He Just Strangled to Death
Joseph McKinnon apparently had some disagreement or inclination that led up to 65-year-old Patricia Dent’s strangulation death on the morning of Saturday, May 7, 2022. That morning, Dent hadn’t shown up to work but that wasn’t what alerted authorities.
Emergency services received a call about an unresponsive man in a backyard. The caller was on the scene administering chest compressions until paramedics showed up. McKinnon couldn’t be revived and died as a result of a heart attack.
When he was found, it appeared as if he’d been working in his garden and the initial thoughts pointed to that being what did McKinnon in. However, calls by co-workers and family checking up on Patricia Dent throughout the day raised suspicion.
It was after checking out a pit that the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office discovered the missing woman’s body in a fresh grave. Dent’s twin sister, Pamela Briggs said of the outcome “I’m shocked. I didn’t see any of that coming.”
Briggs was one of several people in Dent’s life who called to check on her welfare. She added “I would say a nightmare, and I want to wake up, and it’s a dream. I know it’s not. This is reality and life, and a big part of me is gone, and now I’m going to have to live with that.”
