“Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli has been released from prison after serving a little over four years of his original seven-year sentence.
“Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli Released from Prison After Serving Over 4 Years
For those who forgot about Shkreli, he was a successful hedge fund manager and founded Turing Pharmaceuticals. He is also known for purchasing Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin in November 2015 for $2 million. It ended up being a decision several of the members spoke out against.
Martin Shkreli was brought up on securities fraud charges a month later. He would be found guilty on three of the eight counts and was sentenced to seven years in minimum security on March 9, 2018. The day before, $7.4 million in assets were ordered to be forfeited by the court.
Prior to his release, Shkreli was serving his sentence at FCI Allenwood Low. Now he will stay at a halfway house via the New York Residential Reentry Management Office. Once out of prison, Martin Shkreli—still in his correctional grays—was picked up by a guy named Edmund Sullivan. He would go on Facebook and post that “Getting out of real prison is easier than getting out of Twitter prison.”
Meanwhile, Sullivan tweeted a photo of the recently released former executive with the caption “Picked up this guy hitchhiking. Says he’s famous.”

Sullivan made sure to reply that he didn’t simply pick the convicted fraudster outside of the prison and that the tweet was for satire.
