The problems between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Tony Kahn have dominated the pro wrestling news for the last couple of weeks, and it’s made things more interesting for fans in general.
Like with the WWE’s Montreal Screwjob in 1997, fans love when backstage drama is brought into the ring. Nothing touches our emotions like real life put on display.
It makes it even better when it’s hard to tell if something is a work or shoot as the line can become blurry really fast and easy.
On last night’s AEW Dynamite, MJF gave a powerful, expletive laced promo that was quickly dubbed his Pipe Bomb.

Making it real
According to various reports, it seems like this storyline went from fiction to reality as MJF is frustrated with his pay allegedly being lower than some midcarders and way below former WWE stars.
What strikes a nerve with many is his pay scale despite his TV time and arguably being the best heel in the business at the moment.
In general, people understand what it’s like to feel unappreciated by our employers, so it’s easy to connect with MJF’s frustration.
And like Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon, many would love to curse their boss out or take it to the next level. We love to live vicariously though sports and entertainment figures, and if handled right it can mean big things.
What wasn’t shown on the show but fans shared online, CM Punk came out to stop MJF’s rant, and MJF rolled to the floor and escaped through the crowd. This looks like it’s setting up a feud for the AEW World Championship.
If that’s the plan, it would be great for fans as MJF was in a limbo of sorts before his previous feud with Punk invigorated him and he took it to another level.
The good with the bad
Of course, not everyone is a fan of his or what he’s saying, and that’s only a benefit to AEW as MJF if doing his job as a heel and people will keep tuning in to see him put in his place.
Just like those of us that watched, hoping for Hulk Hogan to lose in the 80s and it helped us experience everything the WWE had to offer.
Because of that, there’s a good chance MJF’s latest promo could be a ratings bonanza for AEW. It has everything we hate and love, and has the potential to take AEW to the next level if the booking overall improves.
