Team Taz were extremely close to finally claiming the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Double or Nothing, but ultimately fell short in the triple threat match. Tonight, they ensure that loss doesn’t turn into a trend, as Powerhouse Hobbs & Ricky Starks are once again in tag team action.
Team Taz Do Not Get Paid By The Hour
They rushed their opponents before the bell, not even waiting to be introduced. Jobber #1 was kept by Starks before Hobbs ran him down with a lariat. #2 would take the spinebuster, and #1 took the spear and this was over.
A pretape promo would air during the match, with them hyping up their now broken 500+ day win streak as a tag team. They are not ready to give up yet, and whoever holds that belt better keep their eye out for the most overlooked team in the game today.
Athena Makes Her In-Ring Debut For AEW
Athena has finally arrived in AEW, and now has her debut match. She’s taken aim at the TBS Champion, Jade Cargill – but first needs to fight up to that match. Step one is former Impact Wrestling star Kiera Hogan, who recently linked up with Cargill as a baddie. Can she shut down Athena before she gets moving?
These two would lock up in the middle of the ring, before Hogan uncorked a forearm to the jaw. Athena would catch a crossbody and move into a fireman’s carry, with Hogan slipping out into an armdrag. Springboard crossbody caught Hogan, before a dive to the floor.
Velvet would sweep the legs of Athena behind the eyes of the official, and Hogan hit a leg drop to the back to the head for a one count. Athena would get punished with some ground and pound action, before grabbing a roll up for a one count.
Hogan kept the stomps coming as Athena tried to get to her feet, before getting a two count. Athena would jam Hogan into the mat with a slam, before the dropkick would get Athena in control. Eclipse was set, but Velvet would again get involved to make the save. Hogan kept the heat on, before Athena hit the rolling forearm.
Athena went up top, and would nail the O-Face for the victory. Simply put, you don’t get up from that diving cutter, it’s no joke – and could be what finally ends the Jade era of the TBS Championship.
CM Punk Gives Up The AEW World Championship
Everything seemed fine with CM Punk as AEW World Champion, having not even won the belt a week ago. However, reports of a possible foot injury suffered when leaping into the crowd on AEW Dynamite would bubble underneath. He finished the match all the same, but earlier tonight would send out the following tweet. “I’ll be on AEW Rampage live tonight with an important announcement in regards to the AEW World Championship, and my career.”
Punk would hit the ring with the belt over his shoulder, but a bit of a limp in his step. He looked distraught as the crowd chanted his name. Punk would say that when he pulled up to the arena, every bone in his body was begging for him to go home – even the broken ones. Punk always promised to give his all until the wheels fell off.
He’d offer good news, and bad news. He’s loved every single second he’s been in an AEW ring, every time a gift. Bad news, he needs surgery. Good news, he will be back from this. Right now, the AEW World Championship can’t stay around his waist though.
He knows this is a bump in the road, and the get back will be bigger than the set back. Punk was champion for a reason, and will reclaim the belt he didn’t lose. Who will claim the now vacant AEW World Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
