ABC and Disney Channel star Stoney Westmoreland received a 25-month sentence for trying to lure a minor into having sex. Before the deal could get nastier than it already looks, the former Andi Mack struck a deal with prosecutors and plead guilty to using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor.
Former-Disney Channel Actor Stoney Westmoreland Gets 2 Years for Trying Lure Minor for Sex
According to Westmoreland’s lawyer, the actor was looking at up to ten years on the original charge of enticement of a minor over the Internet. This is definitely a big deal for the actor. The specifics of the actor’s charges are that he was caught in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2018. He was allegedly trying to hook up with a 13 –year-old and used an app to chat with the minor and set something up.
In speaking with TMZ, Westmoreland’s legal team said that he was on Grindr and actually chatting with an undercover officer posing as a minor. His legal team even had a doctor look at him and attempt to get to the bottom of all of this. They claim that the doctor is of the opinion that Stoney Westmoreland believed the sessions were adult roleplay with another adult.
In the literal sense, Stoney isn’t wrong. An undercover officer is playing the role of a 13-year-old. However, roleplay is a mutual activity. Both players know what’s about to go down and there’s a degree of trust depending on what kind of roleplay it is. Now, in the legal sense, Stoney Westmoreland was chatting with someone who identified as a minor in their communications. That’s why the charges are so specific in this kind of situation.
As part of his reduced sentence, the former Scandal actor will have to submit his DNA and register as a sex offender. Also, his electronic devices are subject to random searches and he must report all of his accounts used for online communications such as email, storage services, and social media. Finally, he is prohibited from contacting anyone under 18 without adult supervision.
Stoney Westmoreland had a regular role on the teen show Andi Mack as Henry Mack, the dad/grandfather of the titular character. The show ran from 2017 until 2019, ending with Westmoreland’s arrest in 2018.
Andi Mack had finished up post-production for what would be the third and final season and Stoney was fired from Disney following his arrest.
