Britney Spears got married to Sam Asghari June 9, and the only person from her family to have gotten an invitation to the big day was her older brother, Bryan Spears. While Bryan and his girlfriend Amber Lynn Conklin were spotted all dressed up for the occasion, Bryan shockingly snubbed his sister last minute by not attending her wedding, leaving many to wonder what exactly happened to cause a potential rift between the siblings.
It’s no secret that Britney’s disdain for her own family runs deep. The singer has lashed out against various members of her bloodline on Instagram on numerous occasions, and has a special kind of vitriol for her father and former conservator, Jamie Spears.

While Britney’s hatred for Jamie may very well be justified, she also has taken umbrage to her mother, Lynne Spears, for passively allowing her to be controlled for most of her life. Similarly, Britney has fired shots at her sister, Jamie Lynn, for publishing a book largely about Britney in an attempt to once again profit off of her sister’s struggles.
But Britney seemingly has maintained a cordial relationship with the elusive Bryan, who has done his best to remain out of the spotlight for the most part. The dynamic between Britney and Bryan is complex at best. Just like everyone else in Britney’s brood, Bryan was also financially benefiting from Britney’s conservatorship.
When Britney’s conservatorship was put in place in 2008, a judge ordered Bryan to receive $200,000 for ‘services rendered’ from Britney’s estate. Not only that, but Bryan was on Britney’s payroll as one of her ‘managers’ and he was also named as a trustee of a trust established in Britney’s name. Of course, all of these decisions were overseen by Jamie Spears himself, leaving Britney with no say on how her hard-earned money would be spent.
Bryan’s stance on Britney’s conservatorship has varied. While sitting down for a rare interview for the ‘As Not Seen on TV’ podcast in 2020, Bryan referred to the conservatorship as “a great thing for our family”. A conservatorship is meant be for the best interest of the conservatee, not her money-hungry family who refuses to get real jobs of their own.
But during that same podcast, which was at the pinnacle of the “Free Britney” movement, Bryan expressed sympathy for his sister’s situation, stating, “She’s always wanted to get out of [the conservatorship]. It’s very frustrating to have. Whether someone’s coming in peace to help or coming in with an attitude, having someone constantly tell you to do something has got to be frustrating”.
“Obviously there was a need for it in the beginning,” he said of the conservatorship. “Now they’ve made some changes and all we can do is hope for the best”. Bryan also questioned Britney’s abilities to fend for herself if she were to be freed from the conservatorship, saying, “I know what she wants but at the end of the day, what is … the practicality of that? Oh, so are you going to call and make reservations for yourself today?”
Traditionally, the bride’s father will walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. While there was zero chance of that happening due to Britney and Jamie’s estrangement, the next logical assumption would be that her teenage sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, would walk their mom down the aisle, but they were also absent from the occasion.
One can’t help but wonder if Bryan was supposed to be the one to ‘give her away’ to the groom. Whatever the case may be, Bryan Spears flew into Los Angeles and got dressed up with the intention of attending Britney and Sam’s wedding. What unfolded between the two of them remains unknown, but the wedding still went on despite Bryan’s very obvious snub.
