Later this month, we’re set to see the rosters of AEW & NJPW collide with Forbidden Door. We’ve already seen Hangman Page vs. Kazuchika Okada teased, and fans were hoping to see a dream match between CM Punk & Hiroshi Tanahashi – before Punk broke his foot. We’re likely to see some matches that fall into the category of dream matches throughout the show – but Jay White of NJPW doesn’t care about that.
Jay White Doesn’t Care About Dream Matches, Just Wants The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
During an interview for NJPW1972.com, Jay White would give his thoughts on Forbidden Door. Simply put, he doesn’t care – as all his focus is on his upcoming match with Kazuchika Okada, where he hopes to claim the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. White would be quoted saying the following about the Forbidden Door PPV.
“No. I don’t give a shit about the ‘dream match’ stuff. It’s all about money and championships, and by the time I go to the United Center I will have *the* championship. So why would I care after that? Everyone else should be fighting to have a dream match with me, and BULLET CLUB and the Undisputed Elite will own the show just like we own the wrestling world.”
If White is to defeat Okada at Dominion on Sunday, it’s very likely he will face Hangman Page. Considering they were both in BULLET CLUB at the same time, this would be a very interesting clash – though many fans would prefer to see him face Okada.
Equal To Okada In The Eyes Of NJPW
If anyone has a chance to defeat Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship this year – it’s White. Okada has been waving the flag for NJPW all through their 50th Anniversary year, and has shut down challengers like Will Ospreay, Tetusya Naito (twice!) and Zack Sabre Jr.
However, Jay White is someone who NJPW has continued to show insane trust in – even having him as their champion going into their debut show at Madison Square Garden. He’s very much their #2 name after Okada, with both of them being incredible wrestlers in the prime of their careers. If they trust anyone else to wave the flag of NJPW through their 50th anniversary – it’s White.
