Amber Heard doesn’t just seem to understand when it’s time to accept defeat and move on. In her first interview since a jury unanimously ruled that she defamed Johnny Depp and ordered her to pay him over $8 million in damages, Heard slams the trial verdict while blaming everyone but herself for her big loss in the courtroom. During a sit-down with the Today show’s Savannah Gunthrie, Amber Heard declared biased ‘social media representation’ was the reason that she received an ‘unfair’ verdict. In a bold claim coming from someone who was publicly proven to be a liar, Heard also accused Depp of putting ‘paid employees and randos’ on the stand to testify in his favor.
“Even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair,” said Heard. In a bid to further accept zero accountability while taking a swipe at the men and women of the jury who ruled against her, Heard alleged that the jury was swayed by her ex-husband’s ‘excellent acting’ and ‘beloved’ reputation as a Hollywood star.

‘I’ll put it this way, how could they make a judgment, how could they not come to that conclusion [that I couldn’t be believed]?’ asked Heard. “They had said in those seats and heard over three weeks of nonstop, relentless testimony from paid employees and towards the end of the trial, randos, as I say. I don’t blame them, I don’t blame them, I actually understand, he’s a beloved character and people feel that they know him. He’s a fantastic actor. Again, how could they after listening to three and a half weeks of testimony about how I was an uncredible person and not to believe a word that came out of my mouth”.
Despite millions of people worldwide being firm believers in Johnny Depp’s innocence, Heard insists that she’s unphased by the backlash. “I don’t care what anyone thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home in my marriage behind closed doors. I don’t presume the average person should know those things so I don’t take it personally,” she told Gunthrie. Heard, who insists that she doesn’t have the money to pay Depp but flew to New York City for this interview on a private jet, has vowed to appeal the verdict, but the evidence against her was overwhelming. The defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp spanned for six week and took place in Fairfax, Virginia. Both parties presented an unbiased jury with dozens of texts, photos, videos, medical records, and witness testimony. Both Heard and Depp took the stand to state their version of what happened throughout the course of their relationship.
Depp sued Heard to the tune of $50 million for an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 that suggested she was a victim of domestic abuse. Heard countersued Depp for $100 million. After a jury ruled that Amber Heard was guilty of defamation, she was initially ordered to pay her ex $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, but a Virginia law wouldn’t allow the punitive amount to exceed $350,000. Heard was also awarded $2 million from Depp in compensatory damages, leaving Heard to pay a whopping $8.35 million when all is said and done.
