Since Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of Raw in protest to how the women’s division, specifically the nearly extinct women’s tag division was treated, news as slowed down considerably.
There have been reports that Banks was released and even allegedly got her lawyers in to have it finalized, but nothing definitive one way or the other has come out.
But now it appears the WWE thinks they can clone Sasha Banks
On a recent The Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast, Andrew Zarian said that the WWE views Banks as someone replaceable they can clone.
“In their minds, they could clone Sasha with somebody else and have her fit that role, and no problem. It’s now a role you’re playing. It’s a role with mid-level actors. Everybody’s a mid-level actor, except for a Roman Reigns, or a Brock Lesnar, or a Cody Rhodes. Those guys are the stars.”
To be fair, the WWE hasn’t commented on this or whether Banks has been released, but they also have a lot going on at the moment with the board investigating Vince McMahon for misconduct.
WWE has “cloned” before
But it’s not a surprise this would be Vince McMahon’s viewpoint as he brought in a fake Diesel and Razor Ramon when Kevin Nash and Scott Hall signed with WCW in 1996.
The fake Razor and Diesel didn’t sit well with fans, but there was definitely that special something lacking.
They went through the motions, did what Nash and Hall did, but it felt like they were playing the part instead of being the part, and we expect the same will happen when/if the WWE tries to create another Sasha Banks.
It’s cliché to say a company needs an individual more than the individual need the company, but in this case it’s true.
The WWE needs Banks as she’s one of the best in the business and replacing her with a “clone” won’t work nearly as well.
While there’s a legitimate argument that Banks owes the clout she has to the WWE, it’s her connection to the fans that made her as great as she is.
We doubt the plan would work, much less as seamlessly as some reportedly think it will.
As far as Banks, it’s been rumored that she’ll go to AEW and give their woman’s division a tremendous boost and legitimacy they’ve been lacking at times.
