WWE Creative is beyond a doubt one of the worst in professional wrestling. The shows often lack logic, flow, and feel like they were put together at the last minute.
But after the last few years of our pleas being ignored we’ve grown used to it and many of us have checked out.
But it’s also a problem with wrestlers who are promised one thing, are part of the build up only to have it changed because a big name becomes available and the promoter wants a quick cash in.
From what Dave Meltzer had to say in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
It’s been suggested plenty of times on social media that Sasha Banks’ issues with the WWE go back a ways, especially when people point out she “caused trouble” before when defending her character or vision.
Gone awry
It’s been widely reported that Banks and Naomi didn’t like the idea of the six pack challenge as Naomi would win and it’d set up Naomi facing Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s title and Banks would face Ronda Rousey for the Smackdown Women’s title at Hell in a Cell.
In a nut shell, it looks like they wanted to avoid the typical fracturing Vince McMahon does to tag teams to further the singles division as they wanted to defend their tag titles.
It’s fair to point out how badly the women’s tag division has been handled with only two teams currently and they’re reportedly looking to bring teams up from NXT 2.0 to fill the slots in the tournament.
But this is why they resisted the creative direction as they wanted to build the women’s tag division and make it something special.
But it looks like it goes further back than that as many suspected.
Pushed aside at WrestleMania
Meltzer pointed out on his show that Banks was upset when her match with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38 was changed for Ronda Rousey after months of being planned.
“Sasha has always had issues, she was mad that Ronda got the WrestleMania spot…it was planned for Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair which was planned for months, I wrote about it. She got moved down and they gave her the tag belts as kinda like a concession because she got moved down. Okay, if you’re looking at it from only Sasha’s [side], they lied to me, right?
“They didn’t know Ronda was going to agree to come back so soon after her pregnancy, but Ronda wanted to prove it because her mom did it and they also really wanted Ronda at WrestleMania because Ronda is the bigger star. But to not understand that they picked Ronda ahead of you for WrestleMania and get mad about it…yes did they tell you, yes. Does that make you a good team player no? If you don’t understand that Ronda is a much bigger star than you…. for that show [WrestleMania] there’s not a doubt Ronda is a much bigger star than Sasha Banks in that spot.”
An additional point is it’s been reported that Rousey wanted to work with Flair, and just like that any creative build was lost and that can be extremely frustrating. This is definitely a spot where things started going sideways.
In the end, it still looks like Banks and Naomi were defending their characters and the tag division.
