When they checked the apartment, they found Kimberly Neptune dead and listed the death as suspicious. The Chief Medical Examiner’s office determined that her death was a homicide. Meanwhile, the State Police had found footage that shows two people leaving her apartment earlier in the day.
On April 29, 2022, the State Police would arrest Donnell Dana and Kailie Brackett during a traffic stop and charge them with murder. According to the Bangor Daily News, the duo went to Neptune’s home to steal 300 Xanax pills and money.
Until November 2021, Donnell Dana lived with Kimberly Neptune. He said that he lived there for a couple of years, sleeping on the couch and that the two were never in a serious relationship.
Also, Brackett revealed her plans to rob Kimberly to a friend and publicly accused Neptune of stealing money from her. The two were supposedly in a relationship as well. On April 20, Brackett called Neptune to schedule a night together the following evening.
On April 21, the two went to Neptune’s house and a fight ensued after Kimberly voiced that she didn’t want Dana there. Brackett would loot the house of drugs, money, and jewelry. That same friend who was told of the robbery said that Brackett showed up after the murder and said that Dana and Neptune got into “a fight that got out of control.”
The medical examiner found that Neptune had received 484 stab wounds to the head, neck, stomach, and legs. After she succumbed to her injuries, she was wrapped in a blanket.
Even after investigators said that his blood was found on the scene and noted the scratch marks on his body, Donnell Dana denied any involvement in Kimberly’s murder. Brackett was identified after she posted online and was wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the surveillance footage.
The two are being held without bail at the Washington County Jail.
