A new study analyzing the trial between the famous ex-couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard came to a conclusion that the cyberbullying and cyberstalking to which Heard was subjected is one of the worst cases ever recorded.
Amber Heard did lie about being a domestic violence victim only to damage Depp. The Washington Post article she released in 2018 allegedly cost the famous actor millions and millions of dollars. His well-liked figure and character, in general, were destroyed. However, he had a plan to retrieve it back. That is why Johnny Depp won the trial and is to receive $10 million in damages. However, even though Amber is not a victim of domestic violence she is a cyberbullying victim indeed.
Study Finds That Amber Heard Had Been A Victim Of The ‘Worst Case’ Of Cyber Bullying During The Trial
In the infamous article, Amber Heard did not mention Johnny Depp’s name, but when you read the article it is pretty clear who she targets. The couple was in marriage between 2015 and 2017. So right when she came out of marriage, she releases an article like this. Isn’t it obvious that she is insinuating the Pirates from the Caribbean star?
The real ‘hell’ for the actress starts when the trial gains popularity worldwide and is broadcasted on TV and the internet. It became a true reality TV show. It gained more popularity than current TV shows. And with it, many memes and jokes appear on social media about her, as a less liked side of the trial. The public seems to praise Depp more and more with each ‘episode’ of the trial.
“Even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation.” – Amber Heard states in June.
On July 18th, a non-partisan website fighting disinformation and targeting harassment releases a report regarding Amber’s situation.
“We believe Twitter users should be able to engage in healthy online discourse. Without inauthentic accounts, toxic trolls, foreign countries, and organized groups manipulating the conversation.” – the study of the website states.
The website’s analysis included the use of hashtags regarding the case, and regarding bullying Amber. Hashtags such as “#AmberHeardIsAnAbuser” and “#AmberHeardIsALiar”.
The website also finds out that the use of intentional misspelling is often as well in order to deceive Twitter’s algorithms and make more hashtags trending at once.
Also, the fans and followers supporting Heard were subject to bullying as well. They are a subject to a relentless attacks with no holding back. Furthermore, the study finds registration of more than 600 Twitter accounts during this period with only one purpose – to trash Heard.
“What we observed was one of the worst cases of cyberbullying and cyberstalking by a group of Twitter accounts that we’ve ever seen.” – the report reads.
They suggest that the platform did very little to stop the abuse and the harassment. There was no banning, no censure, or deletion of such specific new accounts.
