Ohio Man Arrested for the February 2022 Death of His Girlfriend – Mother of Victim Found Out About Her Actual Cause of Death from News Reports
Just before 3 AM on February 15, 2022, the Cincinnati Police responded to a deceased person call on West Galbraith Road. Once at the residence, officers found Deandrea Funchess (24) unresponsive. She was later declared dead at the scene by the Cincinnati Fire Department.
From the initial investigation, Funchess’ death was believed to have been a drug overdose. However, the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office did a more thorough autopsy and found that she had been “internally decapitated” or that she’d been beaten so badly that her skull disconnected from her spine.
The death was determined to be a murder and her boyfriend, Mayzio Arnold (25) was arrested on July 13, 2022. His bond was set at $750,000.
An eerie note on this case is that Deandrea’s mother was told that she died from an overdose but it didn’t sit well for her. What also doesn’t sit well is that she—and the rest of the family—remained in contact with Arnold so that she could talk to her two grandchildren.
In speaking with WXIX-TV, her mother Bernadette Davis spoke about her daughter and Mayzio Arnold’s arrest. Davis said that she didn’t find out about how Deandrea died until Mayzio was arrested and read about it online:
“As far as I know about him, he seemed to be ok. The kids loved him. […]They had issues like any other couple, but I’d never in a million years have thought that this would have been the outcome of that situation.”
