Hasim Rahman had just blamed Jake Paul for the cancellation of the event. “Jake and his ‘team’ canceled this fight, not me! The fight isn’t happening on their accord, not MINE!” – Rahman states over Twitter.
However, Jake Paul now sells another story. He says that the negotiations about the fighting weight were lengthy and that he had agreed to a 205lbs fight. But, according to Jake, Rahman didn’t want to go lower than 215lbs. This was a deal breaker for Jake and he was left with one option – to cancel the fight.
“Hasim Rahman Jr has pulled out of the fight. This is not a joke, it’s devastating, I cannot f***ing believe this; we just found out this news. This is another case of a professional boxer, just like Tommy Fury, being scared to fight me.” – Jake says.
“It is as clear as day that these guys have been so unprofessional to work with, looking for any excuse to suck more money out of this event, to coerce us into doing things and I knew from the jump that this guy didn’t want to get in the ring with me.” – Jake adds.
“The biggest payday of his life times 10 and he’s fumbling it. For what? Because he knows he’s going to get a knock out by me. The pressure starts to set in and it’s exactly what happens with all these guys. I’m sick of it, its devastating and I apologize to everyone on the undercard. This is absurd but there’s nothing I can do about it; I apologize to the fans and I’ll be back at some point.”
But is this true? We see that Jake’s fights have a declining trend for PPV buys. His first three fights were more or less better than anyone expected. However, after that, the line is in a decline. Could that be the reason for the cancellation? His most recent fight generated only 65k PPV buys. Because in the end, money is what drove Jake into boxing.
