Denise Richards says that she would definitely not want her daughters to be married to someone like Charlie Sheen and go through the same that she went through. Not being able to take it anymore, she divorced him while being 6 months pregnant.
On one side she praises and is grateful that she did what she did on time. On the other side she feels a little bit of guilt as with this she split up the family. That she left her children facing the consequences of divorced parents.
Denise Richards Says Her Relationship With Sheen Was Very Toxic – Wouldn’t Want Her Daughters To Have Such Husbands
On an episode of the ‘Divorced Not Dead‘ Podcast, the actress confessed that her split with Sheen made her struggle for years. She adds that the bottom line is that she wouldn’t want her daughters to marry someone like Sheen.
“I said to myself, ‘Would I want my daughters married to this man?’ No offense to him but I think he would take that and understand what I’m saying, and that’s when I was like, ‘Well, why am I accepting this?’” – Denise says.
She went on to confirm that she did have second thoughts when she had her second daughter, but all in all her marriage was toxic.
Denise Richards has two biological daughters with Charlie Sheen. Sami and Lola, are 18 and 16 years old. Since then, Richards went on to adopt another daughter, Eloise and married the actor Aaron Phypers.
“I did shelter them a lot, and then they started to get to an age where ‘so and so said this’. And I lied my ass off and covered for him.” – the actress reveals in the podcast.
“Now as they’re starting to get older, they’re more aware of more things. That’s why I say I don’t know if I did them a disservice when they were younger.”
Denise confessed that she and Charlie did try to put on a picture of a happy couple when in public. However, in reality, it was all but happy.
In the end, Denise says that even though she did not have a good marriage with Sheen, she doesn’t regret it. She says that there is a purpose behind everything, and the purpose behind her and Sheen’s marriage is her daughters.
“I really do feel that he and I were brought together to have our daughters.” – the actress says.
There is a brief moment after the couple divorced when Denise got back with Sheen. They started dating again for a couple of months, but it didn’t last long.
“It made me also know I could one day tell my girls that I did everything I could possibly do to make this family unit.” – Denise says. “I felt the most guilty splitting up the family unit. I struggled with that for years.”
“There is a lot that the public doesn’t know, and you never know what goes on behind closed doors. It was not a good situation.”
