There was a security conference in Las Vegas that got into the headlines because of one attendee. During the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, someone hacked Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet system. Lennert Wuoters is a cyber security researcher from Belgium.
He assembled a device in his home with parts bought on Amazon that cost $25 in total. Using that homemade device he managed to get into the system of Elon Musk’s rising company and left everyone present in shock.

What Starlink does is, it operates by using user terminals or satellite signal receivers located on private buildings. But, the Starlink system could be breached. Lennert’s shocking hacking shows that.
He took out his homemade device and started his work. With the device assembled from a homemade circuit board, he somehow gained access to the Starlink disc and started exploring the company’s network. He allegedly used an opportunity when the Starlink system showed a voltage fault injection attack and somehow his device gave him permission to do what he was not supposed to do.
Rob Pegoraro, a journalist, is amongst the first ones to report about the happening. He took to social media and he wrote – “Interesting. Very in-the-weeds briefing about hardware exploit of a Starlink user terminal. Concluded with a live demo of researcher Lennert Wouters while using it to root a terminal. Loved the ASCII art; sorry to report that Wouters did not say “I’m in” like a hacker in a movie.”
“Our attack results in an unfixable compromise of the Starlink UT and allows us to execute arbitrary code. The ability to obtain root access on the Starlink UT is a prerequisite to freely explore the Starlink network.” – Lennert Wuoters explains his deeds.
Starlink is a company that has launched more than 3000 satellites into the Earth’s orbit. These satellites are providing internet service to places where usually it is very difficult to access it.
In the recent period, Elon Musk revealed that he provided several satellites to circle above Ukraine with a single task – to provide internet to the people that need it the most. The Ukrainian army didn’t have any means of communication at one point during the raging war. These Starlinks are responsible for getting the Ukrainian army out of this situation.
Musk pointed out that there are constant tries by Russia to jam the signals of the Starlink satellites. However, until now they do not have any success.
