Elon Musk is very friendly with the Chinese government. This coziness that the billionaire enjoys is a result of a mutual benefit. Both sides, meaning himself and the Chinese government have a great interest in his investments in the country.
Musk speaks highly of China’s engineering and scientific power, and of course, to protect his business he distances himself from criticizing China’s authoritarian regime.
Elon Musk Wants To Employ Robots, So He Can Stop Paying Workers For Doing Simple Stuff
Recently, China Cyberspace Affairs Administration made the publication of Elon Musk’s article about the prospects for the development of technologies that will affect people’s lives for the better.
The billionaire wrote about numerous topics surrounding technology. He mentioned humans traveling to space, people being a multi-planetary species, and lastly Tesla and the robots. All this is beautifully wrapped in a story of how he contributes to making Earth a better place.
For the most part, the letter is concerning the development of humanoid robots that could possibly alter and affect life for the better. Especially, the life of the elderly generations.
“Today’s cars are increasingly like smart, web-connected robots on wheels. In fact, in addition to cars, humanoid robots are also becoming a reality. Tesla is launching a general-purpose humanoid robot (Tesla Bot) in 2021. The Tesla Bot is close to the height and weight of an adult, can carry or pick up heavy objects, walk fast in small steps, and the screen on its face is an interactive interface for communication with people. You may wonder why we designed this robot with legs. Because human society is based on the interaction of a bipedal humanoid with two arms and ten fingers. So if we want a robot to adapt to its environment and be able to do what humans do, it has to be roughly the same size, shape, and capabilities as a human.” – Musk states in the publication.
Critics believe that the first and maybe sole reason for the development of such a robot would not be as philanthropic as you’d think. Yes, the robots might be able to help elderly people and may execute simple tasks around the house. However, the main task that they can do and do better than humans – is to work on an assembly line in Elon’s factories while not asking for a payment each 1st of the month.
“Tesla Bots are initially positioned to replace people in repetitive, boring, and dangerous tasks. But the vision is for them to serve millions of households, such as cooking, mowing lawns, and caring for the elderly.”
Reading the letter you get the whole picture that Elon paints. He does plan on launching robot production. He believes that this will help humanity to make a giant step forward. But, is it like that?
There are areas throughout the world that make a living by working in industries surrounding them. The people work as line operators, as cleaners, cooks, and lots of ‘simple-task’ jobs.
Replacing them with robots would bring a great strike to the economy of the area. People will be left jobless and broke. And this is a recipe for dissatisfaction.
What do you think? Do you weigh in with Musk on this one? Do you think that we should not feel threatened by it?
