Former North Dakota County Prosecutor Beats Ex-Wife to Death in Front of Their 5 Children
The assault occurred on August 23, 2022 with Marshall County deputies responding to a call in Warren, Minnesota. They would arrive at the home of Anders Odegaard (31) who answered the door in his boxers and had blood in his hair. He would tell the deputies “I don’t feel right.”
It was then that one of the deputies spotted Carissa Odegaard—Anders’ ex-wife—lying in a pool of blood. Medical professionals were sent in to administer aid to Carissa and she was eventually flown to receive treatment in Fargo, North Dakota. It was there that she died of her wounds.
Anders Odegaard was apparently going through a rough time between 2021 and August 23, 2022. While he had been made the county prosecutor of Mercer County, North Dakota, he was booted from the position after three months.
His follow-up job as a public defender also ended in a short amount of time. In addition, he was chin deep in debt with a college loan sitting at over $100,000 with a few other loans.
Also in 2021, he received divorce papers from Carissa that April. The two shared joint custody of their five children. She would be holding the youngest child as Anders beat her mercilessly.
According to the two children who managed to get help, they were supposed to be heading over to their father’s house to attend church.
An argument broke out in the backyard and Anders began choking and beating Carissa. The children noted that this beating was far worse than the previous ones they had seen. Carissa would be pronounced brain dead the following day.
Currently, the former prosecutor’s bail is set at $2.5 million.
