A woman who fled a murder warrant in Tennessee for three years was finally arrested in Texas while trying to return to U.S from Mexico. Border Patrol officers in the El Paso sector arrested Gloria Villa Avila (41) as she crossed the Paso Del Norte entry point through the pedestrian lanes.
Woman Fleeing Tennessee Murder Warrant for 3 Years is Arrested in Texas After Trying to Re-Enter from Mexico
The arrest occurred on August 29, 2022 when border agents checked her name and found a warrant for her arrest out of Tennessee. Agents escorted her for a biometric verification which confirmed that it was the same suspect wanted in the state.
Villa Avila was arrested by U.S Customs and Border Protection officers and handed over to authorities in El Paso before being extradited back to Tennessee. As usual with CBP press releases, El Paso Port Director Ray Provencio explained the job of CBP and how the arrest was related to that job:
“Homeland security is our primary mission. As part of our mission, we often identify people wanted for a wide variety of crimes. Every day CBP officers stop people who are wanted for anything from outstanding traffic warrants to murder charges.”
In September 2019, Gloria Villa Avila shot and killed her fiancé, Ismael Rodriguez (44) in Nashville, Tennessee. His skeletal remains were found in Kentucky.
Villa Avila was charged with first-degree premeditated or intentional murder before her flight from justice.
