In an unexpected story from overseas, three police officers in Uttah Pradesh, India were suspended for taking a bribe to drop a drug trafficking case. The officers were based in what is known as Noida Sector 57.
It was here that cops arrested a trafficker named Narang on September 14, 2022. The guy was facing drug trafficking charges when the cops offered to sweep all of this under the rug for Rs 20,000.

A friend of Narang delivered the bribe while also recording the transaction. The video would be released via social media on September 16 and by September 17, authorities were doing damage control on the whole situation.
Ashutosh Dwivedi, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that an internal investigation into corruption was done and the results confirmed what was already out. The culprits were revealed with the head constable being the point guy for the bribe and was arrested.
“Three personnel including the Sector 57 police chowki in-charge (Lokesh Sharma), a head constable (Rajkumar Tyagi) and the constable (Sonu Kumar) who was seen in the video taking money have been suspended.”
Given the boldness of these officers to request bribes, this seems like something that has happened before or is a regular practice. As a result, further investigation is expected.
