A new era has begun for King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The Royal Family’s profile pictures on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook were updated on Tuesday, September 27, to include the new monarch and Queen Consort. Charles, aged 73, immediately took over as monarch after his mother, 96 years old, died “peacefully” on September 8.
The new picture was carefully chosen and showed the couple looking straight ahead, with the King’s military decorations prominently displayed. The photo was taken at the Balmoral War Memorial in Scotland in May 2020 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marked the beginning of the end of World War II when the Allies accepted Nazi Germany’s surrender.
King Charles III Makes Major Adjustments To The Royal Family’s Social Media Accounts
Prince William and Kate Middleton have replaced the profile pictures on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram and Twitter accounts, which were also modified. The unguarded photograph depicts the two senior royals, both 40, smiling together on the Irish cliffs a few years ago.
The avatar on their Duke and Duchess of Cambridge page formerly used this exact image. A poignant letter from the Royal Family and one of Queen Elizabeth’s official coronation images from 1952 were also made public on Tuesday, marking the official conclusion of the Royal Mourning.
The announcement read, “The time of Royal Mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has finally concluded.” This account will continue to honor Queen Elizabeth’s life and legacy while also reflecting the efforts of the King, the Queen Consort, and other members of the Royal Family.
The late monarch’s family continued to be in sorrow for seven days after her state funeral last Monday, as the King specifically requested, even though the country of the United Kingdom officially completed its period of mourning for her on September 20. According to Buckingham Palace, members of the Royal Household Staff, associated representatives, and troops performing ceremonial tasks also observed this time of mourning.
At 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, flags flying over royal residences, including Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, were raised to the full mast for the first time since Queen Elizabeth’s passing. The event ushers in a return to the routine.
