We tend to go into U.S Border Patrol action at the U.S-Mexico border but the agency works regularly with the Canada Border Services Agency. A recent arrest saw the two team up at the Buffalo entry point to arrest a wanted burglar.
U.S and Canada Border Agents Arrest Felon in New York After Being Refused Entry into Canada
The felon was thief Maximo Gomez (50) from Cuba. A warrant was issued by the NYPD in New York City and it apparently took a while before the law caught up to him. After all, once the warrant was out, law enforcement keeps an eye out just in case the subject pops up.
On September 15, 2022, the car Gomez was denied entry into Canada and Canadian border agents directed the vehicle to a search location. It was then that the CBSA found that Maximo Gomez was wanted in New York.
The CBSA ran a check on the warrant to make sure they had the right guy before bouncing him to cops in Buffalo as part of the extradition process.
Buffalo port director Gaetano Cordone applauded the efforts of local enforcement as well as the Canada Border Services Agency in bringing Gomez to justice:
“We continue our crucial work alongside our many law enforcement partners, playing a vital role in maintaining the safety of our communities and bringing fugitives like this to justice.”
