The U.S Border Protection agency has busted up a counterfeit Cartier smuggling operation in Ohio. Members of the Chicago Field of Operations seized three shipments of counterfeit goods with most of them being bogus Cartier bracelets.
If the goods had been legit the shipment would’ve come out to over $8 million according to the U.S CBP.
Border Agents in Ohio Seize Shipments of Bogus Jewelry and Fake Cartier Totaling Over $10M If Authentic
The shipment was scooped up on September 6, 2022 and pulled 700 fake Cartier Love bracelets. Authorities figured they were bogus goods based on where the shipment originated—Hong Kong—and the lack of design details on the jewelry. These bracelets could’ve had a retail value of $8.82 million if they were real.
Later that night, authorities busted another freighter that had two shipments of fake bracelets. The first had 60 pieces of counterfeit Cartier jewelry as well as fake pieces from Gucci, Bylgari, and Louis.
Retail prices have his shipment at almost $2 million authentic.
The items in the first shipment were heading to Colorado while the second was heading to New Jersey and had more “Cartier” bracelets. Director of the Chicago field office LaFonda D. Sutton-Blake said of the busts:
“While online shopping has increased, CBP stays vigilant by stopping illegal shipments like these from damaging our economy. Officers at the Port of Cincinnati are always on the lookout to uphold our mission of protecting the American borders from dangerous people and materials.”
