A Chicago woman was charged with the first-degree attempted murder of their 3-year-old nephew after pushing him off the city‘s Navy Pier. Surveillance footage shows Des Plaines resident Victoria Moreno (34) pushing the child into Lake Michigan.

The incident occurred on September 19, 2022 and the child, Josiah Brown was at the bottom of the lake for 30 minutes. As a result, suffered severe brain damage, bleeding in his lungs, seizures, and cardiac arrest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Ashton King was a witness to the incident and noticed that Victoria Moreno did not attempt to save the child before diving in herself. Young Josiah’s body was recovered by divers after 30 minutes. After suffering cardiac arrest while underwater, he was rushed to Lurie Children’s Hospital where his status was “very critical.”
Moreno’s charges are tied to murder and battery “to a child under the age of 13 causing permanent disability.” Since those charge were levied on September 21 while Josiah was alive, following his death days later, it’s expected that those charges will upgraded.
Investigators have found that Josiah Brown was living with his grandmother when Moreno snatched the boy up before leaving for the Navy Pier. Originally, she claimed not to know the child before claiming that he had been rowdy and fell into the lake after she released his shirt.
It was also discovered that Victoria is prohibited from driving because of the medications she takes for depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Currently, the family is being investigated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services while Moreno’s bail was been denied.
She is expected back in court on September 30, 2022 and is prohibited from contacting the family of Josiah Brown. The GoFundMe set up by the family to cover the child’s expenses has now raised over $18,000 for his funeral expenses.
