In Northern Ireland, detectives with the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Organized Crime Unit and the Belfast Harbor Police made a seizure of 27 kg of marijuana. The seizure was made after authorities happened upon a suspicious driver on October 1, 2022.
Authorities in Northern Ireland Seize Over $452,000 in Marijuana at Belfast Harbor
According to the Belfast Telegraph, the suspect was a 33-year-old man who was charged with suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply. Basically, he was caught with a distribution amount of drugs on him.
The 27 kilograms—roughly 59.5 pounds—had an estimated street value of £400,000 or over $452,000. Detective Inspector Conor Sweeney expressed the importance of targeting larger drug trafficking efforts.
In addition to mentioning that drug organizations can range from crime gangs to paramilitary and operation size, Sweeney would touch on the spiraling criminal effects of the drug trade on communities as well:
“This search, seizure and arrest was conducted as part of our ongoing commitment to address the criminality linked to drug importation, supply and use that often results in drug debts, drug addiction and drug-related deaths within our communities.”
