Three USPS employees were arrested in an identity theft and fraud scheme that ran out of New Jersey and New York. The scheme has run since 2018 and involved at least nine people, according to the Department of Justice.
It should be noted that the postal workers make up three of four people arrested while authorities are still seeking five other conspirators. Nathanael Foucault, Fabiola Mompoint, and Johnathan Persaud were arrested on September 29, 2022.
Also arrested was Devon Richards who isn’t associated with the United States Postal Service.
Three USPS Postal Workers Arrested in New York-New Jersey Fraud and Identity Theft Scheme Worth $1.3 Million
The scheme involved stealing credit cards from the mail and making purchases with them. Those items would then be sold the online retailer LuxurySnob.com. In all, the ring brought in roughly $1.3 million.
U.S Attorney Damian Williams addressed the arrests In a statement:
“The defendants took advantage of the public trust we place in US Postal Service employees for their own financial gain. Thanks to the diligence of USPIS (the Postal Inspection Service), the NYPD, and USPS-OIG (the Office of the Inspector General), the defendants will now be held accountable for their brazen criminal conduct.”
These charges include access device fraud, multiple counts of aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy to commit access device fraud.
