Taylor Parker was convicted of capital murder by a Texas jury for slicing open a woman and stealing her newborn from the womb. This might sound like another frightening case but this one occurred on October 9, 2020.

Leading up to the murder, Parker lied to her loved ones about being pregnant. It’s a lie that demanded a conclusion: the birth of her baby. As it happened, it was getting closer to her due date and drastic measures were required.
Parker would sneak into the home of Reagan Simmons-Hancock who was 34 weeks along in her pregnancy. Prosecutors claimed that Parker managed to subdue Simmons-Hancock and cut the baby from her womb with a scalpel.
At trial, authorities said that the crime scene was soaked in blood. Taylor Parker was later pulled over by state troopers and was found with the stolen baby in her lap. She would tell the troopers that she just delivered the baby on the side of the road.
After being escorted to the hospital, medical personnel pronounced the baby dead. An autopsy on Reagan Simmons-Hancock found that she suffered over 100 stab wounds with close to 40 being to her head and a fractured skull.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner came to the conclusion that a claw hammer was probably used in the attack as well as a jar of sand from the victim’s wedding.
During the trial, Parker’s defense had a massive task ahead of them. The main pillar of their case was that the baby was never alive which would’ve possibly knocked out the kidnapping charge and dropped this to murder from capital murder.
Of course, the state argued that the child was alive and they had the experts to confirm it. After an hour of deliberation, Taylor Rene Parker was found guilty. Her sentencing trial is scheduled for October 12, 2022 where she could face the death penalty or life without parole.
