That is according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe. The Sussexes ultimately left the firm in 2020 and cited that they wanted to live a life of privacy by stepping away from the media spotlight.
And yet, ever since that moment, they have done the opposite. Their highly controversial Oprah Winfrey interview has been followed by ventures with Harry’s tell-all memoir set to come out, as well as the couple’s Netflix docuseries.
But following the recent visit to the UK in which they reunited with Prince William and Kate Middleton in order to pay respects at Windsor for the late Queen Elizabeth II, Duncan has made it clear that the couple need to decide if they want to be part of improved relations going forward or not.
In his comments, Duncan said: “In my opinion, it’s only Meghan and Harry who can decide what they want. Do they want to forgive and forget, creating unity with the royal family?
“Or do they want a wholly separated life in California? They cannot have both.” Nevertheless, there is a problem with this approach going forward.
Tom Bower has previously spoken about how the couple are heavily reliant on speaking about the Royal Family in order to sustain their income.
And since they have signed lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix, that would go some way to proving that point. The fans on social media made their opinions very clear.
A significant proportion of the fans felt it was already too late for the Sussexes to return to royal life at any point in the future. One person wrote: “They don’t decide anything. The door is now closed. Live your life in CA now.”
