YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is once again setting his sights on Floyd Mayweather. Paul is set to face former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the boxing ring on October 29, but told MMAFighting that he wants a piece of “Money” Mayweather.
Mayweather has spent the years since his final professional appearance against Conor McGregor doing various low-stakes exhibition matches, including one fight against Jake Paul’s brother Logan. Paul believes that Mayweather would be willing to face him in an exhibition match, but he wants the real thing.
Jake Paul Promises Inevitable Floyd Mayweather Fight
“I think he would [fight me] if it was an exhibition for sure. The thing is I want it to be a real pro bout and take his undefeated record, which I don’t think he’ll risk. But I just think that makes the fight three times as big, three times as hyped. That’s what I’m aiming for.”
Floyd Mayweather’s most recent fight came against mixed martial artist Mikuru Asakura, which ended in a second-round knockout victory for Mayweather. Up next, he’s set to face social media personality Deji Olatunji. Curiously, Olatunji once fought Jake Paul in an exhibition match, which Paul won via knockout.
Jake Paul has had it in for Floyd Mayweather for a long time. He recently took to Twitter to blast Mayweather’s recent exhibition fights.
“It’s 2022, Floyd Mayweather is ruining his legacy fighting no-name guys, wasting his fans money, wasting his fans time. He doesn’t even know the names of the guys he’s fighting … to make some money to pay his tax bills.
Floyd, I will fight you. And you know that’s one of the biggest fights to make in boxing. I weigh 175, you weigh 165 — we can get that done, make a couple $100 million.”
Maywather promised, however, after his TKO victory over Conor McGregor in 2017, that his pro career was over. His unblemished 50-0 record would never be risked. He has, however, fought in numerous exhibition bouts since. Mayweather is clearly happy to earn serious money in low-stakes exhibition fights against MMA fighters and social influencers.
Mayweather has repeatedly stated that he’s not interested in any more pro fights. Jake Paul is aware of this, and promised that although he’d prefer the chance to take Mayweather’s undefeated record, he’s still happy to face the boxing legend in an exhibition fight.
