American Airlines drama. That’s what you get when you put Sydney Watson, an Australian American political commentator, between two ‘obese passengers’ on an American Airlines flight. Watson took to Twitter mid-flight to complain about her situation as she was about to spend three hours ‘wedged’ between them.
“I am currently – literally – WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight.” – Dr.Sydney Watson tweeted. “This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine. But it is something else entirely when I’m between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours.”
American Airlines Passenger Asks For Banning ‘Fat People’ From Flying In Airplanes After Being ‘Wedged’ Between Two Obese People
Ever since making her first tweet about the situation, the Australian American political commentator went on a spree to bash fat people with her numerous tweets.
“If you need a seat belt extender, you are TOO FAT TO BE ON A PLANE.” – Sydney Watson continued. “Buy two seats or don’t fly.”
According to the strangled passenger, her situation did not go unnoticed by the flight attendants. They noticed her ‘weird’ and ‘unpleasant’ situation and asked her if she needs anything four times in a couple of minutes. While looking at her, the flight attendant even gave her a “pity expression.”
For the drama to get even bigger, the passenger on her right didn’t accept to switch seats with her in order to free her from the weird situation.
“He says, ‘no. That’s okay :)’ …and then I started shrieking internally.” – Watson tweeted. “I don’t care if this is mean. My entire body is currently being touched against my wishes. I can’t even put the arm rests down on either side because there’s no f-ing room. I’m sick of acting like fatness to this extent is normal. Let me assure you, it is not.”
American Airlines were in the middle of this unpleasant dispute. Of course, since they noticed the ‘nasty’ and ‘fat phobic’ tweets they tweeted a reply.
“Our passengers come in all different sizes and shapes. We’re sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight.” – American Airlines acknowledged Watson’s angry rant.
“This is really their official reply to me sandwiched between two obese humans.” – Watson tweeted surprised by the answer. “So, they expectd to have only a quarter of a seat when I fly? I just experienced getting sweat on, touched without my consent, smacked in the face and subjected to hours of no personal space. And your response is essentially ‘too bad’? Is that what I’m getting here?”
Since the whole explanation of her situation happened live, on Twitter, there are numerous reactions from people from all around the globe. While many just label her a ‘fatphobic’ person, there are people agreeing with her as well. One person even suggested that fat people should buy two or more seats in order to fly.
“Maybe they need to have those seats outside the terminals where you can check to see if you fit (like they do for rollercoasters)” – his reply reads. “If you can fit in this seat, you will need to purchase two seats for your flight.”
To wrap things up, and to address the media coverage of her tweets, Watson didn’t pull back from her statements. In addition, she even asked for ‘some reparations’.
