Over the three years of AEW, two men have stood out as top guys in the company. Hangman Page and Jon Moxley. They’ve both held the AEW World Championship, main evented PPV’s, and gave us some of the best fights in company history. However, tonight is the first time they have met one on one – and of course, it is over the AEW World Championship.
Coming into this match, Jon Moxley is a man with very little to prove, having been dominant throughout 2022. Hangman Page however has everything to prove. His friends have been vanishing from TV, he lost the AEW World Championship to CM Punk after his head got in the way, and is overall frustrated. Moxley would bring out the next level of Page by calling him a kid, and tonight that ‘kid’ is likely to give the fight of his life.
Hangman Page Starts This Fight In The Crowd
Page would hit the crowd during the entrance of Moxley, getting into a fight early. Moxley would driven into a wall and kicked in the face, before a suplex onto concrete. Page would enter Moxleys hometown crowd, looking to dive off a platform onto Moxley with a moonsault. A bloody Moxley would gain the upperhand, and would look to drag Page to the ring so this match could begin.
However, he’d take time to punch Page in the nose, enjoy the crowd and hit a double axe handle. At ringside, Moxley would take a seat in a chair but got punched in the face. Moxley was rolled into the ring, but would fly back out with a drive before chopping away at Page. They’d finally reach the ring, the match officially started… and went back to the floor as Page whipped Moxley into the ring steps.
Back in the ring, Page would look for Deadeye, only for Moxley to block into a figure four leg lock. Page would go after the face of Moxley and was able to break the hold. Moxley would take Page into the corner and hit some violent strikes, before being whipped hard across the ring into the corner.
Moxley was hit with the Fallaway Slam, with Page able to spring to his feet… but took time to taunt and walked into the cutter. Page would be bitten in the corner, before Moxley set up and nailed a superplex – and found time to rake the back before forcing Page down to the mat. Moxley would be ready for Page to kick out, and would stomp the head before trying for the armbar.
Jon Moxley Wins By Referee Stoppage After Injury To Page
A camera shot would show MJF left his private box in the arena, as Page would block a piledriver and hit Deadeye on the apron. Back in the ring, Page would apply a single leg crab – with Moxley blocking into a step over choke. Page fought free before Moxley would run himself in the ringpost.
Moxley would be taken up top and thrown to the floor with a Fallaway Slam. Page would block a German Suplex and came back with a lariat, only for Moxley to nail the King Kong Lariat. The doctor would check out Page in the ring for a potential shoulder injury, with Page landing hard on it – and the match would ended in a referee stoppage. Still AEW World Champion – Jon Moxley.
Page was taken out on a gurney, and Moxley would try and celebrate. They’d run down the card for AEW Rampage – including title vs. trademark, The Acclaimed vs. Varsity Athletes & Preston Vance vs. RUSH. Cowboy Shit chants would sound off, as Moxley would get a microphone.
MJF To Cash In At Full Gear – Wants To Beat A 100% Moxley
He’d hope that Page recovers and can be back to the ring again, but that’s wrestling. You put your body on the line every time the bell rings, and that’s what happens sometimes. Moxley would call for MJF to come to his ring and fight him with the remaining time, and MJF’s music would hit.
MJF came with the chip and a referee, and would call for the match seemingly. He’d take his jacket off, before rolling from the ring. He’d hand the chip to Regal, and grabbed a microphone. MJF doesn’t want excuses when he beats Moxley, and that match will come at Full Gear. For once, he’ll earn it.
