Normally when we cover Border Patrol busts and seizures, it’s often a tractor trailer or a white SUV getting stopped and moved to the secondary inspection.
Rarely do we get some ingenuity in drug trafficking but two drug smugglers added some dazzle-dazzle to their meth smuggling attempt in Eagle Pass, Texas. You could say that they were feeling the season and being a little festive.

On October 11, 2022, Border Patrol agents based in the Eagle Pass Port of Entry ran into a Ford Escape coming in from Mexico at the Camino Real International Bridge post. The CBP reported that there were two occupants when the SUV who were moved on to secondary inspection.
It was mentioned whether non-intrusive equipment or drug-sniffing canines were used but the CBP made a big discovery of 136 condoms filled with liquid meth inside four pumpkins.
The seized methamphetamine weighed almost 44 pounds or 19.84 kg and had an estimated street value of $402,196.
The smugglers were handed over to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office for legal processing and investigation. Acting Port Director Elizabeth Garduno pointed out that this was a bit of a twist on smuggling:
“Our frontline CBP officers have seen just about everything and this Tuesday was no exception as they encountered liquid methamphetamine hidden within pumpkins. They utilized their training, experience, interviewing skills and uncovered a rather novel narcotics smuggling method in the process.”
