There’s been a big development in the Stockton serial killer case as authorities have arrested a suspect in the form of Wesley Brownlee (43). The arrest occurred in the early hours of October 15, 2022 in Central Valley City when officers found Brownlee who was in full hunting gear: black clothing, a mask, and armed with a pistol.
Authorities noted that he had been exhibiting threatening behavior by driving to different spots, hanging around, and then moving on. They said that he definitely out looking for his next victim.
Wesley Brownlee Arrested as Suspect in the Stockton Serial Killer Case
After tips came in via Crime Stoppers, Brownlee was made a suspect and observed. It just so happened that police found him while out hunting, according to Chief Stanley McFadden of the Stockton PD. Of the tips, Chief McFadden said:
“Based on tips coming into the department and Stockton Crime Stoppers, we were able to zero in on a possible suspect. Our surveillance team followed this person while he was driving. We watched his patterns and determined early this morning, he was on a mission to kill.”
Prior to that, they had surveillance footage of a man who was wearing all black and seen at some of the crime scenes. Authorities were also able to link evidence—ballistics—to the Stockton shootings as well as the murder of Juan Vasquez Serrano in Oakland in April 2021.
That shooting came less than a week before the shooting of Natasha LaTour who survived the attack. A motive hasn’t been established as the victims were a mix, nothing was taken from the victims, and the only survivor said that the shooter didn’t speak at all.
While linking the murders in California, the Stockton PD worked with the Chicago PD to see if the Stockton shooter could be connected to two 2018 murders in the city’s Rogers Park area. In that case, cross-referencing turned up no connections.
Wesley Brownlee—who had past DUI and drug charges in Arizona and California—was scheduled for arraignment on murder charges on October 18, 2022.
