The Pharr Port of Entry is a hotbed for drug trafficking coming in from Hidalgo and Anzalduas. Border Patrol managed to seize over 80 pounds of cocaine in two separate entry checks four days apart.
Border Patrol Busts 2 Cocaine Runs Estimated at Over $1 Million at Texas Border
The first bust occurred on October 16, 2022 at the Anzalduas International Bridge post when a Ford truck rolled into the checkpoint. During the follow-up inspection, drug-sniffing dogs tipped off Border Patrol officers.
In that bust, officers fished 20 packages of coke weighing 20.68 kilograms or 45.59 pounds.
In the second bust, a Chevy SUV rolled in via the Hidalgo International Bridge on October 20, 2022. Again, the vehicle was forwarded for further inspection where officers discovered 16.62 kilograms—or 36.64 pounds—of cocaine in the vehicle.
No details were provided as far as if the cocaine was stashed some way or if this was a smuggle-and-pray run—which it seems like. As is routine, the cocaine and vehicles were seized while the smugglers were forwarded to ICE.
