Authorities in Alabama Are Investigating a Double Murder with Few Leads
When authorities arrived, one victim was found dead in the yard while the other was inside the duplex. This is a case with scant details as the cause of death is still being investigated, identities haven’t been released, detectives are still trying to contact the next of kin, and only that the victims were a man and woman.
The woman would be identified later and the remains were sent to Huntsville for autopsies.
At the Chestnut Street Apartments—across from the duplex—witnesses noted a white car speeding away from the residence at the time of murders. It was also mentioned that there were ten to twelve shots fired that morning.
Olga Gonzalez received a text from a friend about a shooting in the area her cousin lives in Decatur. Gonzalez tried to call her cousin but was unsuccessful. She and her daughter Karla Vazquez arrived at the duplex around 11 AM where they found out that their cousin was the woman who was killed.
While her name hasn’t been released yet, she was described as 38-year-old with two daughters and a son living with her. Her children are with the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
