At the Brownsville Port of Entry, the CBP thwarted several coke runs into Texas between October 30 and November 3, 2022. The first bust was one of the larger busts and involved an American citizen.
The CBP Seized 22.5 Pounds of Coke During a Week of Consecutive Busts – Street Value of $300K
The seizure occurred at the Gateway International Bridge which leads into Brownsville, Texas from Matamoros, Tamaulipas. An individual described as a “25-year-old male United States citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas” was stopped at the border crossing in a 2016 Buick.
During the secondary inspection, a drug-sniffing dog detected something in the vehicle and a search turned up 10 packages hidden inside.
After seizing the packages and the car, officers found 22.48 pounds of cocaine. Details surrounding the smuggler’s method of hiding the drugs weren’t mentioned but the cocaine and vehicle were handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. Also handed over was the smuggler for investigation.
The smuggler’s identity and charges weren’t detailed in the report.
