Elizabeth Hurley looked back on her time working with ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry.
Elizabeth Hurley Recalls Working With Matthew Perry
The pair came across each other as they filmed together for the movie, ‘Serving Sara.’ During the course of that process, the two did not always see eye-to-eye.
Things were not helped by the fact that Matthew was going through his issues with substance abuse, something which he has been vocal about. And things had gotten so bad to the point where they had to stop filming for the project.
In her comments, she said: “It was a nightmare working with him at that time and, as it’s now known, our movie was shut down because of his addiction.
“We were in a force majeure and had to all sit at home twiddling our thumbs for some time.” Nevertheless, things did improve thereafter.
It turns out that Perry decided to get himself some professional help after it became quite clear that his behaviour was becoming untenable. And after having gone through a period of 2 months in rehab, Perry came out a new man.
That is when things improved dramatically, but there were still issues that were plaguing him. Hurley added: “He was still very charming and a lovely person to work with. But you could see he was suffering for sure.”
This experience was something that Perry was very candid about since he did end up getting sued for causing disruption to the movie.
He expanded on how he had to reshoot the movie due to the fact that his words were slurry, which did come with some financial consequences. And as the movie ended up being a disaster, Perry knew all too well the damage he had caused.
In some prior comments at the time, Perry remarked: “It was shot in Dallas and I was doing ‘Friends’ at the same time, so it doubled my workload. And I was flying on a private jet drinking vodka out of a water bottle.”
