Monroe County deputies have arrested a man for stealing 85 pounds of shrimp and other property in the Florida Keys. The arrest went down on November 13, 2022 after a business owner alerted police of a broken lock on his property.
Florida Man Arrested After Stealing 85 POUNDS of Shrimp From a Storage Facility in Stock Island
Felipe Fonseca (52), a resident of Stock Island, Monroe County was caught on security camera stealing not only 85 pounds of shrimp—a feat if done alone and in one night.
He also took an air pump, an engine part, and a GPS unit, according to WPEC. Fonseca is known to authorities and had run-ins with the law in the past dating back to 2003.
This made the deputies’ job easier and the thief wouldn’t hold on to his ill-gotten goods for long as he was tracked down shortly after the facility owner’s call. It wasn’t mentioned where Fonseca was planning to pawn or sell the stolen goods.
The head-scratcher is who was going to accept the 85 pounds of shrimp as that’s a very time-sensitive product to steal.
That means someone out there was probably expecting the shrimp. It’s just not something one would steal and just sit on unless they had the means to store it.
Felipe Fonseca was locked up in the Monroe County Jail and charged with burglary, larceny, possession of burglary tools, and damage to property. He is being held on a $20,000 bond.
