73-Year-Old Florida Man Dies After Crashing Single-Engine Homemade Plane
Prior to the crash, Alban had traded planes with another homemade plane enthusiast. The model he received was a Taylor Monoplane. Several witnesses saw Alban taxi the plane at Blue Ridge Flightpark Airport. His plan was to fly the plane back to Venice, Florida.
According to witnesses, Alban attempted to take off in the newly purchased plane only to get stuck in a tree. Deputies said that the plane “did not appear to climb into the air and suddenly veered left for unknown reasons, hitting the tree.”
It’s unknown how he was injured while in the tree or whether they were a result of the crash or of getting out of the wreckage. The 73-year-old was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
