In Texas, a man was sentenced for distributing heroin after Border Patrol agents found heroin in his vehicle back in September 2021. Gerardo Torres (27), a native of Mission, Texas was stopped in Sarita during a crossing inspection.
Texas Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for 2021 Heroin Trafficking Arrest
Agents turned up a trap door under the passenger-side seat with four packages of heroin inside Torres’ vehicle. Upon further inspection, agents discovered another trap door that hid five packages. This trap door was underneath the driver-side seat.
In all, Border Patrol seized nine packages of heroin of unknown weight and street value. The checkpoint Torres was stopped at is said to be a pipeline for drugs into Texas. What is different about Saritas is that it is a coastal city whereas other pipelines in Texas tend to be on the U.S-Mexico border.
Despite holding him for over a year, it is unknown what—if anything—was gained about drug trafficking operations through the area from the 27-year-old. Gerardo Torres was sentenced on November 23, 2022 and will be held until he is assigned a prison to serve his sentence at a later time.
