After an initial look at the scene, the Homicide Unit was called in to investigate. While the specifics of 27-year-old Kathryn Muhlbach’s death weren’t released to the public, the medical examiner attributed her death to “homicidal violence.”
Authorities issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Jose Caraballo (43) on December 12 for the charge of second-degree murder—domestic violence. Investigators found that Caraballo has connections in Oregon, California, and Mexico and believe that he most likely fled Portland already after his truck was found at the state border of Oregon and California.
The couple moved from San Diego County to start a moving company in Portland. Police pinpointed Caraballo’s expected locations as San Diego, Ramona, and Chula Vista in California as well as Tijuana and Rosarito in the border state of Baja California, Mexico.
It was noted that Jose Caraballo makes frequent trips to Mexico.
