I started watching AEW Dark on YouTube a few months back. I usually enjoy the shows and just got into watching it’s spin off show AEW Dark Elevation. I have found that for the most part, it’s more of the same. Does AEW need to rebrand elevation or is it fine the way it is.
Does AEW Need to Rebrand Dark Elevation
There isn’t anything different between Dark and Dark Elevation. This isn’t a bad thing at all, but it begs the question, why is there two shows to begin with? A two-hour AEW Dark episode once a week would be the same thing as having two separate Dark shows on consecutive days.
I love the concept of having a show on YouTube. It is a huge market and basically free promo for the company. Of course, there is production costs for any show, but I think that it is worth the investment, especially for a growing company like AEW.
For a company that has been open as long as AEW has, they have a great social media print. I think that they should leverage it more to help get some of their lesser-known wrestlers over.
How Would AEW Rebrand Dark Elevation
I can see two different ways that AEW could rebrand Dark Elevation. The first and what I think they should have done before they announced what was happening with the ROH “television deal”.
I think that they should have gave the time and production to ROH and completely separate ROH from AEW. A hour was what ROH was getting when they was on Sinclair networks.
ROH being on YouTube with AEW’s fanbase is a much better than ROH having Honor Club with Honor Club’s fanbase. I think that AEW is banking on a decent amount of their fanbase to get the service.
The other way that they could rebrand Dark Elevation would be to specialize the show. What I mean by this is make the show something very specific. They could make it a women’s only show to get some more shine on their inexperienced women’s division.
They could also blend it like make it only tag team and trio matches on this show and keep AEW Dark for singles men and women matches. This would give the show its own identity and help give people a specific reason to watch the show.
