Matthew Luckhurst—the former San Antonio police office who gave a homeless man a feces sandwich—has lost another job at another police department. While his second hiring is of note, a larger discussion has started around how and why he was able to work for another department after getting released for his behavior.
Feces Sandwich Cop Loses Another Job At Another Department Six Years After Being Fired from San Antonio PD
In 2016, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus spoke against the actions of Luckhurst and said “It’s a disgrace to the department. It’s a disgrace to the badge.” Honestly, that should’ve been enough of a nail in the coffin of the officer’s law enforcement career.
He was at one of the biggest PDs in the state and did something that put the department in a negative light for having someone who would give someone a feces sandwich employed. It could be said that he’d grow and learn his lesson but some former employees are risks that should be avoided.
That’s a lesson learned by the City of Floresville. Mayor Cecelia Gonzalez-Dippel said that Luckhurst was fired after her office received a flood of emails about the officer’s past actions. In a statement she said:
“Last week, I was emailed a copy of an article from the San Antonio Express News that referred to an officer who had been fired from SAPD due to very disturbing circumstances and that this officer had been hired by the Floresville Police Department.”
Mayor Gonzalez-Dippel went on to say that the city is moving to improve their vetting and hiring process as a result of Luckhurst slipping through the net.
